After recruitment, workers are given training in sewing and embroidery until they reach a standard which enables them to join the production process. Each worker produces complete articles and is paid piece work.
All who show an aptitude for the work are given employment and are trained to be multi-skilled. Bangladesh has a long tradition in crafts and needlework but workers are also encouraged to innovate and adapt to new ways of working.
Surjomukhi provides a safe, hygienic working environment and has a social fund to cover costs for their workers for:
- Medical treatment
- Courses and training
- Education for their children
- Social activity to strengthen their group identity
